Amref Wins COVID-19 Grant from TraceLink

December 22, 2020 – Amref Health Africa in the USA won a $30,000 grant from Tracelink, the leading digital platform company for the life sciences industry, to help support our COVID-19 relief efforts. The grant will enable us to provide more personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline health workers and secure essential medical equipment such as hospital beds for health facilities in Kenya, strengthening the country’s response to the virus.
TraceLink created a COVID-19 fund in April 2020, dedicating a total of $1 Million in charitable grants to help aid organizations around the world focused on providing COVID-19 relief, with a critical need for funding in the areas of food crises, virus treatment, equipment and technology relief, elder care and family assistance, and mental health.
To slow down the spread of COVID-19 throughout Africa, Amref is providing health workers with training on COVID-19, increasing access to testing, expanding community awareness and outreach, and building water and sanitation infrastructure. So far we’ve trained over 78,000 health workers and community health workers and provided over 41,000 health workers with PPE. Learn more about our COVID-19 response here.
“To help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Kenya, we must prioritize the protection of frontline health workers,” said Jenny Peck, Senior Manager, Development, Amref Health Africa in the USA. “While Kenya is among the ‘readiest’ countries in Africa to take on COVID-19, it is not well positioned to handle the virus without adequate PPE and equipment like hospital beds. TraceLink’s funding will allow us provide health workers with PPE including N-95 masks and face shields, and to purchase essential equipment like infrared thermometers and hospital beds.”
